Summer is here and Teddy and I are ready for some California fun!
Shown here is his friend and neighbor, Molly, modeling our ‘Summer Fun’ smocked dress available this week at Muttropolis Fashion Island, La Jolla and Solana Beach. Here are some hot summer fashion tips for your fur baby:
While the weather is still warming up, consider a fun floral dress or tank top for your pet, to steal the show, when you are out and about shopping or lunching especially in outdoor malls like Fashion Island in Newport Beach, or wherever you are! As the weather gets warmer, hairbows, collar clips, bow ties and bandanas are fun accents for your fur babies.
Make sure to stay cool with lots of water, shade and early morning walks. Have your own pool? Throw a pool party this summer, inviting all of your fur baby’s besties with the perfect doggie desert-popsicles! All you have to do is freeze your choice of broth (ex. chicken or beef), pour into a popsicle mold, use a dog friendly jerky as the stick and voila, you have a fun and creative treat that is time consuming for your dog (but wasn’t for you!)
There are so many fun things to do this summer! Teddy loves BBQing (he’s a meat and potatoes kind of guy) and any kind of water adventures.
A great activity to do with your bestie over the summer is camping. Teddy and I recently went shopping at REI and checked out the tents and chairs for our next trip. He loved this little chair
The tent was the perfect size for both of us! However, most pet friendly campgrounds are for people with campers or RVs (you have to go further north to be able to pitch a tent right on the beach with your dog). Check out www.bringfido.com (877-411-FIDO) which is a great resource for both campgrounds and pet friendly hotels throughout the United States. Remember, the safest campground for small dogs is the beach, free of bears and other critters!
Teddy has a checklist of essential items to pack when we are camping together; water, medication, a cozy matt to sleep on, food, treats, a frisbee, a ball, toys, a brush (for long haired dogs especially if you are near water), an extra towel, a leash and harness. I recently did a pinterest board on camping with your dog with ideas for fun activities. To connect to it for other ideas go to: https://www.pinterest.com/thedogsquad/camping/
Another fantastic idea to explore this summer is surfing! If your dog is an adrenaline junkie that loves the water, give Surf City Surf Dogs a call for lessons! Check out this link to book an appointment: http://surfcitysurfdog.com/surf-dog-competition/ . You can take lessons with a friend like Joey did:
And then enter their surf contest alone!
This guy looks so much like Teddy, that I think if Teddy was younger we would go for it! Whatever you choose to do, have fun and make some great memories…
